Nova Finisher Specifications:

Our Nova series of small vibratory mills share a common welded metal base powder coated. Each machine has an on/off timer with 0-60 minute cycle or constant on. Our unique hard mount spring system transmits maximum use of energy into amplitude or vibration that will roll steel media. The working chamber is of one-piece bowl 5/8” thick polyethylene construction with a 3/8” inlet and a 3/4” outlet drain system for wet processing that can be closed for dry applications. The cover lid is a clear polycarbonate that is recessed and fits tight to deaden the sound, maintain liquids, debris, and processing integrity.

What makes our vibratory equipment different is our motor system options. All finishers are equipped with industrial strength motors which include heavy duty ball bearings with 110volt 60 Hz motors operating at 1725 RPM and rated at 138,000 hours of service.

Nova Series Model Information:

The Nova model numbering system indicates the capacity of the bowl in cubic feet. The 250 series is our ¼ cubic foot, 500 series is the ½ cubic foot and the 1000 series is the 1 cubic foot. Model numbers ending in zero are standard machines while model numbers ending in 1,2, or 3 are custom series high performance machine systems supplied with large motors, heavier duty bearings and stranger motor plate system for greater durability and life.

Optional Variations:

All optional construction features are designated by letters after the model number. These letters also effect performance. The more options, the greater the performance and the longer the life of the equipment. These are as follows:

HT Standard version of all Nova equipment indicates the work chamber bowl construction is 5/8” thick
HDT Indicates heavy duty motor plate located above the spring suspension
system plus the increased bowl rigidity which improves performance and life.
SHDT Is an extremely rugged system specifically designed to run steel media continuously. This machine has increased
shaft size, fastening hardware, and motor mounting plates with special construction.

How To Determine Equipment Needs

Part Size:
See the Capacity Specification Chart shown on comparison link for the physical dimensions of the bowl. This indicates the capacity of the machine system, which is primarily determined by bowl size and that determines the MAXIMUM length, width and/or height of the largest part that can be processed by this bowl. The largest size part(s) that will go into a machine system that will be worked properly or uniformly is determined by the bowl's channel width or "B" dimension. That is, a part will move in an equal x y and z motion. Parts larger than that dimension can be worked in any bowl, equal to "C" dimension; however, they will be touching either the inside or outside walls of the bowl and may not rotate properly. The largest size part is a function or cord length of the inside cone and outside wall diameters. Longer parts can be processed that are larger than the channel width; however, the part will not move freely and will be touching either the inside or outside wall of the bowl.

There is no restriction as to the smallest part you can work in our equipment. The problem is locating these parts and getting a media small enough to allow the parts to be separated out of media. The smallest parts capable of being processed and separated by our patented screen system is .030 in size.

Capacity
Fill capacity is shown in  liquid and pounds of media. Normal deburring and burnishing operations are done with perform media shapes which varies in density and weight.

  • Ceramic media weights approximately 100 pounds per cubic foot
  • Steel burnishing media weights around 300 pounds per cubic foot
  • Plastic media which normal weights from 55 to 85 pounds per cubic foot
  • Dry organic media from 25 to 35 pounds per cubic foot.

For the best and fastest processing results, all bowls should be run 2/3rds to 3/4 full of media. The greater the volume of media or weight you can get in the machine the faster it works. As a rough guideline, the full capacity can be calculated by the maximum fill weight of each machine. This can be determined as follows:

  • For deburring purposes, use 50 to 60% media to parts by weight. That is, if the 1 cubic foot machine takes 100 pounds of ceramic media, you can normally add 40 to 50 pounds of parts to that same machine system per batch for a total of 150 pounds.
  • For polishing purposes, use 80 to 90% media to parts by weight. Based upon 1 cubic foot machine that equals 10 to 20 pounds of parts. Using dry organic media, that equals approx. 25 pounds of media to 15 pounds of parts = 40 pounds.
  • The Nova 500 series can handle 50 pounds of ceramic media to 25 pounds of parts for a total of 75 pounds. Dry organic + parts = 20-25  pounds approx.
  • The Nova 250 series can handle 25 pounds of ceramic media to 12 pounds of parts for a total of 37 pounds. Dry organic + parts = 10-12 pounds approx.

Another way is by volume:

  • Nova 1000 series or a 1 cubic foot machine system can process the volume of parts you can fit into a box 12" x 12" x 12".
  • Nova 500 series or a 1/2 cubic foot machine system can process the volume of parts you can get into a box 6" x 6" x 6".
  • Nova 250 series or a 1/4 cubic foot machine system can process the volume of parts you can get into a box 3" x 3" x 3".

Motors
All Nova vibratory systems come with optional motors.  All vibratory machines get their energy from the eccentric weight. The larger the weight the greater the vertical lift of the bowl and the more aggressive the movement within the work chamber and the shorter the processing time. Naturally the greater the eccentric weight the more pressure is exerted on the motor and bearings. Life expectancy of the motor could be reduced if eccentric weight is too large. To increase the vertical movement and aggressiveness and motor life, larger bearings are required and in to get larger bearings a larger horsepower motor is required. Each motor improvement and eccentric weight increase will increase aggressiveness and decrease processing time as much as 10% over the previous motor.
